as the 2009 Closing Night Film & Gala

WHEN: Saturday, August 22, 2009
6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
(5:45pm - Media Check-In)

WHERE:
AT&T Center Theater
1149 S. Hill Street (between 11th and 12th Streets)
Los Angeles, CA 90015

WHAT: The West Coast premiere of the "lost" music concert film, JACKSON 5 IN AFRICA, featuring never-before-seen footage of Michael Jackson at 16-years-old performing in 1974 in Dakar, Senegal with his brothers with such pop classics as "ABC," "I'll Be There" and "Dancing Machine." The non-profit Downtown Film Festival—Los Angeles will present the movie as the 2009 Closing Night Film & Gala.

WHO:
Robert Hooks, Sr., Celebrated Film, Television, Stage Actor and Narrator of "Jackson 5 in Africa" documentary, Michael Boddicker, Michael Jackson's Keyboard player for over 20 years, Thomas Mims, the mysterious entrepreneur, who bought the film in exchange for a large, uncut diamond, will reveal for the first time the details of how he acquired the footage. Shot in 1974, the film was to have been The Jackson 5's "Hard Day’s Night," a documentary about arguably the hottest act in America at that time, as they made their first visit to Africa. However, ensuing money and legal problems caused the film never to be released. The screening of the film on Saturday will be its first presentation on the West Coast, and perhaps, its last anywhere. Also attending: Celebrities from film, music and television.
