About the Downtown Film Festival – Los Angeles
The Downtown Film Festival was established by the organizers of SLFF, Inc., the Silver Lake Film Festival (a 501(c) 3 nonprofit arts organization), to celebrate the resurgence of Downtown L.A. in all its facets – its historic movie palaces core, its legendary cultural and ethnic institutions, and its thriving business and residential communities. In 2008, its inaugural year, the Downtown Film Festival – Los Angeles will showcase why Downtown has become L.A.’s most exciting “new” community.
The festival will be held in various theatrical venues throughout Downtown's neighborhoods -- Bunker Hill, the Historic Core, Little Tokyo, the Arts District and Chinatown -- and including one or more of its historic movie palaces on Broadway. Additional venues may include outdoor parks such as California Plaza for night-time screenings, and such landmark theaters as The ImaginAsian Center and Japanese American National Museum, with panel discussions, video & art installations, and receptions among the ancillary events. The intention is to “tour and showcase” the diversity of Los Angeles' Downtown neighborhoods through a rotating circuit of screenings and celebrations.

About SLFF, Inc.
Silver Lake Film Festival (SLFF, Inc.) is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization established in 1999 to provide a showcase for independent film in Los Angeles. It is the only major film festival in the U.S. showcasing independent films where the majority of independent filmmakers actually live and work; the festival has been cited as one of the Top Five film festivals in Southern California by the LA Weekly.
At our last festival in 2007, we screened 270 films; honored indie film luminaries Parker Posey, Hal Hartley, Jonathan Dayton & Valerie Faris, and music icons John Doe, Keith Morris, and Alice Bag; showcased the Los Angeles premiere of Hartley's new film "Faye Grim"; presented an array of special programs, including our eco-flagship Sustainable L.A., Cuban music documentaries, erotica, independent Indian cinema, and Conspiracy Theories; celebrated the indie music scene in a series of live concerts that featured the legendary Circle Jerks; and paid tribute to Silver Lake's silent film heritage with the classic "Beyond the Rocks", starring Rudolph Valentino and Gloria Swanson.
